- Spatter-Induced Bridging: In heavy-duty robotic welding, molten spatter easily accumulates between the inner wall of the nozzle and the insulating ring, forming a conductive ‘bridge’. This electrifies the outer nozzle and causes severe arcing if it touches the workpiece.
- Carbonization from Overheating: Prolonged exposure to thermal overload will irreversibly turn the plastic black (carbonization), rendering it electrically conductive. Replace immediately if extensive blackening is observed.
- No Tape Substitutes: Never use electrical tape as a temporary replacement for a broken ring. The extreme heat will melt the adhesive, causing the nozzle to detach and permanently ruining the torch neck.
