- Prevent O-Ring Aging (Coolant & Gas Leakage): AW-18 is a water-cooled torch; the O-ring on H83C00 seals both shielding argon and cooling water. If aged O-rings allow coolant to weep into the shielding gas stream, weld beads become heavily oxidized and porous, and tungsten electrodes turn green and burn out rapidly. Replace aged O-rings or caps promptly.
- Never Over-Torque with Pliers: Tighten H83C00 by hand until the tungsten collet is clamped securely. Never use pliers or wrenches! Over-tightening pulls the embedded brass threaded insert out of the polymer shell, stripping the cap and causing immediate loss of electrode clamping force.
- HF Electrical Shock Warning: TIG ignition generates thousands of volts of high-frequency pulse voltage. If the back cap polymer shell develops hairline cracks from dropping, HF current will track across the crack to the operator’s hand! Replace cracked back caps immediately.
