OTC Daihen Welder Registration & Welding Characteristic Data Setting Tutorial

The Importance of Digital Matching Between OTC Daihen Robot and Welding Power Source

After the hardware integration of an automated arc welding workstation is completed, the primary and most critical step is to execute Welder Registration inside the system. After the welding robot is interconnected with the full-digital inverter welding power source (such as OTC’s classic DM350, DM500, WB-M350, or WB-P500) via a dedicated communication board or network bus, the underlying arc constants must be modified through the teach pendant (TP) to clearly inform the robot of the current welder hardware model.

Only with correct registration can the main CPU of the robot control cabinet accurately invoke the perfectly matched Welding Characteristic Data (Synergic unified collaborative control characteristics), thereby achieving full-digital precise closed-loop control over arc ignition current, arc voltage, pulse waveform, droplet transfer burn-back, and wire feeder power output. If registration is not performed or matched incorrectly, it will result in increased welding spatter, arc breakage, inaccurate wire feed speed, or arc ignition failure. Below is a standard five-step tutorial for digital configuration:

01

Enter the Underlying Arc Constants Advanced Maintenance Interface

Power on the control cabinet and switch the teach pendant to [TEACH] mode. On the main interface, press the [R] key on the physical keyboard to bring up the command input window, type the internal command code [314], click ENTER, then input the official factory expert-level maintenance password [12345] and confirm. After successfully elevating the safety protection level, in the constant setting main form menu, highlight and select the [Arc Constants] control bar and click to enter.

02

Execute Selection and Registration of Welding Power Source Hardware Model

After entering the Arc Constants sub-menu, highlight the [1 Welder Registration] option and click to confirm. In the pop-up selectable welder hardware list on the right, move the cursor up and down to accurately check the welding power source model actually connected in your workstation site. After confirming the hardware code is correct, press the OK key on the bottom right of the teach pendant to officially write the new welder model data to the underlying system.

03

Precisely Set Welding Characteristic Data and Wire Specifications

Return to the previous level, highlight [4 Characteristic Data Setting] and confirm to enter. Click the page turn soft key to enter the second page, highlight the [Characteristic 1] parameter bar and confirm. Then click the [Select] function key on the right side of the screen to enter the database. Use the rotary encoder physical knob on the teach pendant to scroll up and down, finding process characteristic data in the official unified characteristic library that is exactly the same as your site’s **wire material, shielding gas, wire diameter, and welding method**. For example, if the site uses 1.0mm solid steel wire for mixed gas shielded welding, you must precisely match and select the MAG DC Φ1.0 specification data, and press OK to save after confirmation.

04

Configure and Limit the Maximum Wire Feeding Speed

Still within the [Characteristic 1] parameter details interface, move the highlight cursor down to the [Wire Feed] option in the second row, and click the [Select] key on the right side of the screen to enter the sub-configuration page. Use the rotary encoder knob to page down, search the parameter library, and lock onto parameters that match the physical upper limit of the original wire feeding mechanism hardware, selecting AF*** max speed 22mm (i.e., maximum standard wire feed speed is limited to 22 meters/minute), and after verifying the constants are correct, press the OK key to perform the final write lock.

05

Exit Configuration Interface and Return to Standard Teach Main Page

After the above digital constants, maximum speed limits, and wire characteristic parameters are written and saved, continuously click the [Back/Return] button to safely exit the underlying expert configuration interface and return to the standard program teach main operation page of the robot. At this point, the full registration and calibration of the arc welding power source are officially and successfully completed.

Common Reference Table for Characteristic Data Matching of OTC DAIHEN Welder Registration

To prevent workshop technicians from selecting the wrong process specifications in Step 3 and Step 4, the following table lists common matching baselines for full-digital welding power source characteristics used in mainstream OTC robot stations, with clear borders and rigorous arrangement:

Welding Power Source Hardware Model Recommended Registered Model Core Characteristic Data Selection (Characteristic 1) Max Limit of Wire Feed Speed (AF max)
DM-350 / DM-500DM Series Digital WelderCO2/MAG DC Φ1.2 (Based on wire)AF*** max speed 22mm
WB-M350 / WB-M500WB-M Series High-Precision WelderMAG DC Φ1.0 / Φ1.2 (Solid Carbon Steel)AF*** max speed 22mm
WB-P500 (Low Spatter Pulse)WB-P Pulse Series WelderCO2/MAG Pulse Φ1.2 (Pulse Control)AF*** max speed 22mm
WB-W400 (Specialty Aluminum Welder)WB-W Specialty AC/DC WelderMIG Pulse AL Φ1.2 / Φ1.6 (Aluminum Alloy)AF*** max speed 18mm / 22mm

Core Error Prevention Standards on Site for Robot Arc Constant Calibration and Welder Matching:

  • Blind setting of wire feed speed is strictly prohibited: The AF*** max speed set in Step 4 must completely match the physical transmission ratio and maximum speed of the internal motor of the mounted wire feeder actually equipped in your workstation. If your wire feeder can only run up to 18m/min, and you incorrectly register it as 22mm inside the robot, it will cause the actual wire feed speed and the calculated value in the teach program to have large-scale linear drift, leading to extensive shrinkage cavities, burned contact tips (burnback), or wire snap issues when deploying arc ignition commands.
  • Cold start reboot required for changes to take effect: For some older control cabinet systems, after modifying the hardware main category model in the first item [1 Welder Registration], the underlying bus communication requires re-allocating level impedance. It is recommended that after the write is completed in Step 5, you **completely turn off the main air circuit breaker switch power supply outside the control cabinet**, wait for the large capacitor of the control cabinet to discharge for 10 seconds, and then power on again for a cold restart. This forces the main CPU and arc communication interface board to re-establish full-duplex handshaking, ensuring the characteristic data is completely deposited and takes effect.

Why Keep Strictly to Genuine Imported OTC DAIHEN Electromechanical Components on Automated Arc Welding Assembly Lines?

A digital robot welding station falls under typical heavy industrial automation equipment with deep closed-loop high-frequency strong pulse arc ignition and multi-axis trajectory precise interpolation. The use of alternative or imitation electrical components from unofficial channels (such as inferior unshielded welder connection lines, or counterfeit arc boards with poor passive filtering) makes them highly prone to failing high-frequency noise interference standards at the moment high-current welding starts. This triggers bus packet loss, ranging from severe degradation of arc stability, causing porosity and lack of fusion, to reverse peak surges that break down the expensive main CPU board (L23400C00) inside the control cabinet. We solemnly promise that all original arc interface boards, digital wire feeder assemblies, high-following high-shielded body cable harnesses, large capacity retention batteries, and human-machine teach pendants supplied are 100% brand new genuine products imported from official channels.
