OTC DAIHEN FD-V6 Robot Mechanical Structure & Core Parts Analysis
In the OTC DAIHEN automated arc welding workstation, the FD-V6 is an extremely classic standard industrial robot with a 6kg payload. Thanks to its excellent trajectory accuracy and reliable mechanical rigidity, it is widely used in various MIG/MAG/TIG welding scenarios for carbon steel, aluminum alloy, and stainless steel. Its lower base (J1-J3 axes) utilizes high-load RV gearboxes, while the upper arm (J4-J6 axes) integrates miniature and lightweight harmonic gearboxes.
After tens of thousands of hours of high-frequency spatial interpolation and reciprocating movements, the dedicated lubricating grease inside the gearboxes of each axis (such as 100-0624, 2670-053, etc.) will carbonize and dry out, and the timing belts will also experience elongation. When performing routine major robot maintenance, replacing servo motors, or replacing internal cable packages, please strictly follow the official factory exploded view and the parts list for each axis below. Never mix different models of grease:

💡 FD-V6 Robot Mechanical Overhaul & Maintenance Red Card Warnings:
- Grease Replacement Differences between RV and Harmonic Gearboxes (Pressure Release Process): Due to their different mechanical structures, the RV gearboxes on axes J1-J3 and the harmonic gearboxes on axes J4-J6 must never use mixed lubricating grease. When injecting new grease (e.g., 100-0624) into the RV gearboxes, you must absolutely open both the inlet and outlet ports simultaneously, and let each axis of the robot run continuously at 30% low speed for over 20 minutes after injection to thoroughly “release pressure”. If the oil plug is sealed without fully exhausting the high-pressure air inside the cavity, the rapidly expanding air during operation will instantly burst the servo motor’s internal skeleton oil seal, causing massive grease backflow and completely burning out the AC servo motor.
- Fatigue and Tension of J5/J6 Timing Belts (W-L01945/46): When the FD-V6 executes high-frequency short-seam corner welding, the end transmission belts are highly susceptible to fatigue stretching due to alternating stress. If the belt tension is too loose during maintenance, “tooth jumping” is highly likely to occur, causing the welding torch TCP to instantly deviate severely; if the tension is too tight, it will crush the miniature bearings of the motor spindle. When replacing belts, a professional sonic tension meter must be used to accurately adjust them to the Hz frequency baseline specified in the official maintenance manual.
- Absolute Battery (W-L01399) Live Hot-Swap Rule: The backup battery located inside the base maintains the spatial absolute position memory of the robot’s 6 axes. Never unplug the old battery while the main power to the control system is disconnected! Once unplugged during a power outage, all encoder origin coordinate parameters will instantly clear to zero, and the full-axis scales must be recalibrated and the origin positions rewritten. When replacing the
W-L01399battery, the control cabinet must remain powered on, and the new battery must be plugged in immediately after removing the old one.
