🔧 On-Site Torch Assembly & Ceramic Nozzle Maintenance Guide (Essential Reading)

  • Never Over-Tighten Brittle Ceramics: Alumina ceramics are hard but brittle. When installing H21B42, screw it onto the torch body smoothly by hand until snug. Never use pliers or excessive torque! Brute force creates micro-fractures at the thread base, causing the ceramic to shatter upon thermal expansion during arc strike.
  • Prevent Thermal Shock (No Cold-Water Quenching): After continuous high-amperage TIG welding, ceramic nozzles remain extremely hot. Never immerse hot torch heads in cold water for rapid cooling! Severe thermal shock shatters ceramic structures instantly. Always allow torches to air-cool on a hanger.
  • Internal Spatter Contamination (HF Leakage): If tungsten dipping or workpiece contamination spatters metal inside the ceramic bore, the conductive deposit destroys high-frequency dielectric insulation. During arc ignition, HF voltage will track across the contamination to grounded workpieces, causing shock hazards and hard starting. Replace contaminated nozzles immediately.
  • Weld Oxidation Diagnostics: TIG welding requires pure, laminar argon shielding. If weld beads exhibit gray or black oxidation, inspect the H21B42 front orifice against a light. Chipped edges or internal spatter disrupt laminar airflow into turbulent vortexes; replace damaged cups immediately.
